General Display Guidelines

Want to avoid unnecessary citations and/or towing? Display your permit correctly! Do not:

  • Tape permit to windshield (use only approved, clear pockets supplied by IU Parking Operations)
  • Leave permit lying on seat or dashboard
  • Use tape, magnets, string or other materials to attach the permit.
  • Hide permit behind other hang tags on your rear view mirror

Automobile Permit Display

Permit hang tags may only be displayed on vehicles registered with IU Parking Operations. To avoid citations and/or fines, your permit must be clearly displayed at all times while parked on campus.

Hang Tag Permits

Hang tag permits should hang from the rearview mirror, with the letter and/or graphics showing through the front windshield. The permit must be below the tinted portion of your windshield and should be out of your line of sight. If desired, a clear, plastic pocket is available free of charge for displaying in the windshield.

Sticker permits

Sticker permits, including temporary permits, should be placed in the center of your front windshield behind your rearview mirror. The permit must be below the tinted portion of your windshield and should be out of your line of sight. Remove the backing and attached with its own adhesive (do not tape permit to windshield).

Departmental Permits

The Departmental permit should be displayed by hanging it over the interior rear-view mirror of the vehicle so that the permit is facing out, and is readable through the windshield. Vehicles must also display either an 'A,' 'C,' 'D' or 'E' permit. A clear plastic pocket is provided with each department permit so that two permits can be displayed at the same time. The pocket may be placed anywhere on the left half of the windshield where the permit is visible and does not block your vision. Additional pockets may be requested from Parking Operations.

Motorcycle Permit Display

The motorcycle permit should be placed on the front fork or fender of the motorcycle. The decal shall be affixed in such a manner so that the serial number of the permit is plainly visible and running in a vertical direction. You may also contact Parking Operations for a plastic holder that will allow you to use your car hang tag on your motorcycle.
